We shall look at the factors, tips and signs you should look out for in order to pass that interview and take the big step into developing a satisfying career.
Interview guidelines, 10 major guidelines to follow.
Preparing for the interview is very important as a starting point for your career. I have compilled 10 basic guidelines that will help you to prepare well and pass the interview. They will guide you to be confident, speak with clarity and use the interview to show your talents, fit and value. This is your moment to stand out and get hired.
1. Think Positive.
The interview is as much for you to determine if the company is the right fit for you as for the company to decide if you are the right fit for them. Think positively and don’t let interview failure thoughts overwhelm you.
2. Impress.
The impression you will make matters a lot. Impression and the work ethics of observing time and others go along way in determining your fit for the job. Be on time. Be professional and conservative in your appearance. Watch the length of the skirt and the cut of the blouse. Shirts should be pressed, neat and should fit you. Your care about yourself is a statement about the care of your work.
3. Be optimistic and positive.
Have the right state of the mind when you face the interview panel. Having the right state of the mind helps you to relax and also be confident in answering your questions. Make sure you connect with the interviewer as when you connect, you will be more relaxed.
4. Have a question.
When the interviewer asks you if you have any questions, never say no. do your research well and have at least three key questions that will show your enthusiasm for the job. If you don’t have any it show you are ill prepared for the job. Ask something like;
• How do you measure performance expectations of the employees?
• What is a typical working day like?
• What’s the most challenging task about the job?
5. Focus on selling yourself.
Interview is the moment where you offer yourself to the employer and show what value you can add to the company. Don’t be shy about what you can do. Quantify your contribution show reasons why the employer should employ you.
6. Be confident.
When you answer questions, elude confidence on your abilities, but be careful not to be arrogant when you believe you are confident. Do not be self centered, avoid starting every sentence with the first person, “I”. The more you use first person pronoun, the more it makes you sound greater and “extraordinary.” This is arrogance. Be humble but confident.
7. Have the facts.
Do your research well about the company. Get the facts right and you will not only have questions to ask but also what is expected of you in the new company if you are picked. When you have the facts right, it shows focus, conscientiousness and commitment – all attributes needed in any position.
8. Connect with interviewer.
You connect with interviewer by sharing similar interests and attributes. As you approach your interview, notice pictures, objects, awards and other things that first give you information about the interviewer, but also help you see areas about which you both can connect. If you both have coached soccer, lived in a section of a city, drive a certain car, etc…you have some commonality. This makes the interview more personal and more comfortable for both.
9. Watch your body language.
At any interview communication has 3 aspects;
a) Verbal – what you say (words you choose).
b) Vocal – how you say what you say (inflection, volume, intonation).
c) Visual – what you look like (body language).
10. Eloquence.Avoid nervous talking during the interview. This will reduce your score. So be careful for those who are not related in the long run intensively with others, and without any other activity outside the home, because it will affect the smoothness when speaking. For that, you have to practice more.
Good luck!
